A Pepperell High School student was one of two winners at this weekend’s Northwest Georgia Senior Public Speaking Career Development Event.

Winners were Chelsea Campbell of Pepperell FFA and Chelsea Meeker of Paulding County FFA. They now advance to the state contest in Macon.

The public speaking career development event is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to present a prepared public speech in a competitive setting.

Members compose the speech, deliver it from memory and respond to three questions. The event, hosted by Oconee County Middle School FFA and Alumni, is one of many educational activities in which FFA members practice the lessons taught in agricultural education classes.

Judges included voice instructor Eileen Kimble; David Brown from Griffin Tech; Erin Croon, Georgia Farm to School Director; and Jonathon Tescher, Farm Service Coordinator for Georgia Organics.

Chelsea’s agriculture teachers are Michael Gardner and Carey Harris
