An art and history walk will bring local painters, potters, writers, craftsmen and photographers to Broad Street and downtown on Saturday, May 22.

The event will be held 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. It is sponsored by the Rome Area Council for the Arts in partnership with the City of Rome Downtown Development Authority and Business Improvement District.

The Downtown Development Authority will have historic photos of downtown buildings, taken from the archives of the Rome Area History Museum, on display in each block of Broad Street.

Participating artists include painters Cheryl Hodge, Greg Price, Ginger Lowry, James Green, Margaret Ingram, Martha and Bob Gilbert, Aleksandra Egorova, Wes Ellis, Linda Angio, Glenda Orloff and Shannon McCarson; potters John Johnston and Julie Windler; photographers Jerry Maschinot and members of the Rome Photography Club; and writers Richard Ingram and David Hightower.

Crafts such as glass ornaments by Steve Yancey, stained glass by Barbara Walden, and jewelry by Rebecca Koontz, Connie DeVille and Betty Douthit will be available as well.

Nadezda Krasnoperova Brown will be featuring Russian “matryoshka” dolls painted with scenes of Rome, Tom Klopsch will be making balloon figures and Diana Smithson will be doing on-site pencil portraits. The just-opened Foxworthy Studios will be displaying photography and will be open for tours. Musicians from the Rome Area Songwriters Association will be playing at various locations on Broad Street, too.

Maps showing locations of artists and sponsoring businesses will be available from any participating artist or business on the day of the art walk.
