Volunteers at the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Rockmart said recent thefts are hindering them from doing more to help the needy.

The charity has been the victim of four thefts since November, according volunteer Linda Gibson.

She said the wiring from a trailer was stolen, along with the trailer’s two wheels in a separate incident. The radio, a tire inflator and jumper cables were stolen earlier this week from a van.

Gibson said food was even stolen from the food pantry, freezer and refrigerator.

“Stealing food,” Gibson said, “when we’re down there giving it away for free. I don’t know why anyone would steal it.”
