The Rome Braves struck back against the Greenville Drive on Sunday after dropping the first two games of the series.

The Braves scored three runs in the first three innings and held off the Drive 6-4. The Drive ended a four-game winning streak for the Braves when the series started on Friday.

Jeremy Hazelbaker, who hit a home run in the third inning for the Drive, had a chance to give his team the lead in the bottom of the ninth. With two on, two outs, a full count and runners at second and third, Hazelbaker was walked by Wilton Estevez to load the bases.

David Francis took over on the mound for the Braves with two outs and the bases loaded. With the count full again, Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a line drive down the third base line, but Rome third baseman Joe Leonard made a diving catch to end the game.

Rome’s Ryan Weber earned the win, his first of the season.

The Braves continue their series against the Drive tonight at 7 p.m. Rome then return to SMS on Thursday to begin a five-game homestand against the Augusta GreenJackets.
