Man charged with shooting girlfriend; victim is Emerson police officer

A south Whitfield man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly shooting his girlfriend, an officer with the Emerson Police Department in Bartow County, late Monday night, authorities said.

Melvin Laray Roberts, 55, of 166 Valley Point Drive just below Connector 3, was charged by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with aggravated battery with a gun, aggravated assault with a gun, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
